Welcome to Wekiva

Wekiva Elementary is a special place where teachers, staff and students can laugh, grow and learn together.  Visitors to our school note the positive energy when they walk through our doorways.  Our parents generously volunteer their time to work with students and support the school by raising money for various projects that help to improve our school.  It is truly a community effort.

Wekiva Elementary was built in 1978 and is located in the heart of the Wekiva subdivision, a golf community of 1500 homes with winding bike paths, two small lakes, three parks, tennis courts, and nature trails. Wekiwa is a Creek Indian word that means “spring of water”. Wekiwa Springs is the head water of the Wekiva River. Wekiva means “flowing water”.

Wekiva fully supports the SCPS philosophy of the “Three A’s”: Academics, Arts, and Athletics. We are proud to be ranked an A+ school for the 14th year in a row! On the FCAT, Wekiva scores above the district and state averages on “mean scale score” and “percent of students at or above grade level” in the following categories: 3rd grade FCAT Reading and 3rd grade FCAT math; 4th grade FCAT Reading and 4th Grade FCAT math; 5th grade FCAT Reading, FCAT Math, FCAT Science. In addition to outstanding academics, Wekiva also sponsors many clubs and activities. To support athletics, Wekiva offers a strong Physical Education program, based upon educating our students on healthy life-styles, sportsmanship, and overall personal health. We also offer WOW Time (Work Out Wekiva) on non-PE days and we are proud to sponsor a competitive K-5 Cross Country Team.

Computer Coding at Our School

Students at Wekiva Elementary are participating in the Hour of Code where we are coding for one hour during this week while students from all around the world are also coding.  Our second graders will log into their accounts at school so they can add their lines of code to the ones they have already written this year.  Other grade levels do not need an account to participate in the Hour of Code.

We encourage our students to continue participating in the Hour of Code once they have completed it at school.  To play the Hour of Code puzzles at any time simply click on the image above, select the image for the Hour of Code and select the Minecraft, Star Wars or Frozen puzzles.  Have fun!

Information about testing has now been moved to a page that can be found by selecting the Parent tab at the top of the screen, then the Testing page in the navigation bar to the left hand side of the screen.
