The music classroom centers on experience with rhythm, singing, moving, playing, listening, and evaluating. From kindergarten through fifth grade, all students will have opportunities to experience music in many different ways. Music is a cumulative curriculum, allowing students to master skills through each grade level. Elementary school is the perfect place for preparation that is broad yet comprehensive, leading to the larger goal of participating in middle school and high school programs, should they choose. For those who simply come to music during elementary school, the benefits are many. Our classroom rules, CPR cooperation, participation, and respect point to the social elements of a music classroom, but there is much more. Children who have early exposure to music have shown increases in cognitive function, as well.
This year, our third, fourth and fifth grade students will be playing recorders which can be purchased through the school store. Recorders that are sanitized daily are also available for borrowing in the music room. A letter will be sent home regarding this program. Students should keep their recorders in their backpacks at all times for classroom use and home practice. Fourth and fifth grade students will be invited to join a multi-experience ensemble, known as Koala MusicKidz. As a part of the ensemble, students will have a chance to perform on drums, recorders, Orff instruments, along with singing and choreography
Thank you for supporting your child’s music education.
