What is the School Advisory Council?
The School Advisory Council, known as SAC (sak), advises the Principal and assists in decision making. SAC is involved in formulating the annual School Improvement Plan and School Improvement Plan budget, giving input to the capital outlay budget and regular school budget, conducting the annual school survey, and advising the Principal on other school-wide issues.

Who is on the School Advisory Council?
SAC has 11 members: 6 parent/community members, 3 teachers, 1 school staff member, and the Principal. Members are elected by their peers. To ensure continuity, the by-laws of the Wekiva School Advisory Council call for staggered three-year terms for all SAC members. Each year two new parent/community members are elected and one teacher is elected. SAC members should be representative of the neighborhoods and the racial and ethnic groups served by the school. All SAC meetings are open to the public.

How much time is involved in serving on the School Advisory Council?
SAC meets once a month for one to two hours. The members determine meeting times. There are also training meetings conducted by the district office for all School Advisory Councils once or twice a year in the evening. Informational items and the topics for discussion are sent to SAC members for review prior to each meeting.

Why get involved in the School Advisory Council?
SAC members learn a great deal about how the school is run, work as a team to make Wekiva Elementary even better, and assist the Principal in understanding community concerns and desires. SAC is a way to serve the community and the school. SAC meetings are productive and positive.
