Welcome to Music at Wekiva Elementary
During the 2008-2009 school year, your child will be having music once every six days for 40 minutes. In these lessons, the students will be studying the following elements of music: Beat, Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Style, Form, Tempo, and Dynamics.
The music curriculum is sequenced from kindergarten through fifth grade, with each year's studies building on previously learned skills.
The lessons will provide each student opportunities for singing, instrument playing, movement, and listening experiences. Instruments used will include rhythm instruments, keyboards, and mallet instruments, such as xylophone and metallophone. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will also learn how to play the soprano recorder. They should keep their recorder in their backpacks at all times so they're available for both home practice and school lessons.
The performing ensembles offered at Wekiva Elementary are:
Chorus (open to interested 4th, and 5th grade students)
Recorder Band (open to interested 4th, and 5th grade students)
